Dental Crowns
for Auburn, Brunswick, Freeport, Gray, Lewiston & Turner, ME

A dental crown is a cap that is placed over a tooth, covering it completely. This cap is custom-made for each individual patient and designed to mimic the natural shape, size, and color of their existing teeth. The crown is then cemented onto the tooth, providing strength and protection while also restoring its appearance. At The Center for Advanced Dentistry, we provide dental crowns for patients throughout Auburn, Brunswick, Freeport, Gray, Lewiston, Turner, ME, and the surrounding areas.

When Are Dental Crowns Necessary?

Dental crowns serve as a versatile solution for a variety of dental health needs. They are commonly used to restore and protect teeth that are damaged, decayed, or weakened. Here are some of the most common situations when a dental crown is necessary:

  • Damaged or Fractured Teeth - When a tooth is cracked or broken, a crown can restore its shape, strength, and function.
  • Severe Decay - If a cavity is too large for a traditional filling, a crown can provide a sturdier and longer-lasting fix.
  • Root Canal Treatment - Teeth that have undergone root canals are often protected with crowns to ensure durability.
  • Cosmetic Enhancements - Crowns can also be used to improve the appearance of misshapen, discolored, or uneven teeth.
  • Supporting Dental Bridges - Crowns can help anchor a dental bridge for tooth replacement.

If you're experiencing one of these issues, our team at The Center for Advanced Dentistry can help you determine if a dental crown is the best solution for you.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns

Durability - Crowns are crafted from strong, reliable materials like porcelain, ceramic, or metal, ensuring they can withstand everyday wear and tear.

Protection - They shield weak or damaged teeth from further harm, reducing the risk of more extensive dental work.

Improved Functionality - Crowns restore the ability to chew and speak comfortably, enhancing your overall quality of life.

Long-Lasting Solution - With proper care, dental crowns can last for many years, providing a reliable and cost-effective solution to dental issues.

What to Expect During the Dental Crown Procedure

The dental crown process typically involves two visits to our Auburn, ME office:

First Visit

1. Initial Examination & Preparation

The dentist will examine the tooth and take X-rays to determine its condition. If the tooth requires further preparation, such as a root canal, this step will be completed first.

2. Tooth Reshaping

The tooth is filed down to make room for the crown. If the tooth is too small or damaged, a filling material may be added to build it up.

3. Impressions & Temporary Crown

Impressions of your tooth and the surrounding area are taken. These will guide the creation of your custom crown. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent one is being crafted.

Second Visit

1. Fitting & Adjustments

Once the custom crown is ready, the dentist will remove your temporary crown and fit the permanent one to ensure a perfect fit.

2. Cementing the Crown

The crown is securely bonded to your tooth, restoring its function and appearance.

The entire process is straightforward, and our team is dedicated to making your visits as comfortable as possible.
